The interior spaces of the temple also reflect the Art Nouveau style and include some of the same motifs found on the exterior, such as seedlings, leafy branches, and cherry blossoms. The millwork includes recessed details that were inspired by fruit tree blossoms and leaves. These are also found in pilasters, recommend desks, pew end panels, and altars. Organic curves were used to create the design of light fixtures and the decorative painting.

Moving upward between floors in the temple, the designs for art glass, lighting, flooring, and millwork become more intricate Stone. Inspired by traditional Latter-day Saint and other religious architecture, the Layton Temple includes design motifs that were influenced by the agricultural heritage of the Layton City area. The structure’s exterior consists of precast concrete panels over a structural steel frame and cast-in-place concrete shear walls. Interior and exterior motifs feature seedlings, leafy branches and cherry blossoms.

Open Houses and Dedications

A Tiffany art glass piece that dates to 1915 can be found on the second floor. The piece, entitled “The Resurrection,” was purchased from a United Presbyterian Church in Armenia, New York, which was torn down in 2015. The rich agricultural history and tradition of David County, once known as “The Garden Spot of Utah,” also influenced the exterior art glass design. Stylized Art Nouveau patterns in the glass feature a seedling growing into a fruit tree.

There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. The Church of Jesus Christ also announced that Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication for the Puebla Mexico Temple on May 19, 2024. Construction for the Layton Utah Temple began with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020.

The state is home to nearly 2.2 million Latter-day Saints spread throughout more than 5,400 congregations. For the second time in less than a week, a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opened to the media, special guests and the public for tours prior to its dedication. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the “house of the Lord,” the most sacred places on earth. Unlike meetinghouses, where Sabbath worship and weekly activities take place, temples are open throughout the week and closed on Sundays. “Eventual exaltation requires our complete fidelity now to covenants we make and ordinances we receive in the house of the Lord” President Nelson said. He added as the membership of the Church of Jesus Christ increases, the church wants to build temples closer to members.

Upcoming Open Houses, Dedications and Rededications

The nearby Bountiful Utah Temple was dedicated in January 1995. Elder Duncan called the Layton Temple a “house of hope” and “a place of peace.” He said the Church builds these temples so more people can access to the wonderful things that occur inside the temple. Decorative bronze hardware and railings were custom designed to match the motifs of the temple and were fabricated by Luan Bronze in Utah. On October 8, 2019, an official exterior rendering of the Layton Utah Temple was released. Other areas feature stone quarried in Turkey and milled in China, with principal colors being Burder Grey and Burder Blanco. Other temples under construction in Utah are the Deseret Peak, Ephraim, Heber Valley, Lindon, Smithfield and Syracuse.

The rich, saturated colors of the glass vibrantly enhance the building’s exterior at night and create a warm and inspiring interior during the day. The art glass designers were Holdman Studios of Lehi, Utah and HNWL Architects of Salt Lake City. Fabrication for the many windows was completed in the Holdman production facility located in Mexico. Visitors of all ages are invited to a free public open house held for most new or renovated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The open house includes a video and a walk-through tour of the temple. After the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful members of the Church.

A temple is considered a house of the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other sacred agreements that unite families for eternity. The decorative fixtures in the ordinance rooms create a lovely warm and bright and inviting light, which helps to elevate the reverent and inspiring feel of these spaces. The fountain on the west terrace of the temple mimics the temple’s outer window structure with rounded ends. Clad in beige granite, its tiered basins provide movement and sound as the water cascades down from the holding pool.

The temple’s open house will take place prior to the dedication from April 19 to June 1, 2024, throughout the week, excluding Sundays. Additionally, the church announced the open house dates and dedication plans for two other temples worldwide. “We want to bring temples closer to the expanding membership of the Church,” said President Russell M. Nelson as he announced the Layton Temple in the October 2018 general conference. The Church of Jesus Christ now has 350 houses of the Lord in operation, under construction or renovation, or announced worldwide. Beautiful decorative painting patterns consistent with the balance of the design elements in the temple are found throughout the temple.

How to Paint Your Homes Exterior

house paint exterior

This striking dark gray is even more pronounced when contrasted with whites and neutrals. This cool muted hue crossed with a deep mossy green brings the colors of nature to your home exterior. For areas that might get close scrutiny, you can follow up with a 100- or 120-grit rubdown to erase any scratches.

Shades of Gray

Some painters charge cheap hourly rates, with pricing as low as $20 an hour. Though these discounted rates can be appealing, be wary of these offers. There is no licensing required in the residential painting field in most areas, so almost anyone can call themselves a painting contractor. More experienced technicians usually charge $40–$80 per hour per painter. Depending on repairs, on average you can expect to pay $2–$20 per square foot. Once the paint has thoroughly dried, remove any protective coverings from downpipes, windows and other decorative features.

How to Pick Exterior House Colors

Sherwin Williams Duration Exterior Latex paint is low-VOC, meaning that the fumes are not as bad for you as many other paint fumes. While no fumes are great to breathe in as you work or as the paint dries over the next several days, this one at least is less of a concern. While most paints these days offer paint and primer in one, sometimes you need a legit primer to ensure a long lasting paint job. Figuring out how to best embrace that character and history through exterior color schemes can be overwhelming. You want to honor the style, but make sure to also find an exterior color palette that says something about the person living in it. Paint protects the surfaces on the exterior of your home from rain, snow, sun and other weather-related damage.

Q. Should the shutter color match the front door color?

You may not be worried about color fading so much as blistering, warping, and failing to dry from surfaces that won’t dry out and constant high humidity in the air. And if you’ve ever thought the color green was out to get you and eat your house alive, you need some rainy region, algae-resistant exterior paint. But fortunately, a few paint brands such as Benjamin Moore and Behr have developed the best exterior paint formulations that are resistant to fading. If you’re looking for a type of paint that will keep your dessert-region home exterior looking freshly painted for many years to come, look no further than these two paints below. Behr Ultra Paint and Primer also offers the time savings that come with paint-and-primer combos. But more importantly, it is formulated to not only resist stains but also hide them better.

Once you choose a paint brand, the pros advise against additives, such as mildewcides. But they will add conditioners such as Floetrol (for latex) or Penetrol (for oils) to slow drying times in hot weather so brush and lap marks don’t show, and to make paint more sprayable. Working in sections, from the bottom to the top, will avoid streaks. Wood siding and trim should be ready to paint after a day or two of dry weather. Exterior house paint ideas can help you plan to give your house a whole new look.

The existing condition of your house will influence the job and the tools & materials you need. For example, suppose you have an older property that’s been painted before. In that case, applying a new coat of masonry paint is easier than stripping it back to the original exposed surfaces. Or, if previous owners used paint to disguise poor repairs, these need to be fixed properly before painting (we cover this in step 2 below). You can't miss when combining gray and white on a home's exterior. No matter the shade, gray beautifully sets off white trim, as well as a wide variety of other colors.

Best Paint Sheens for Home Exteriors

If you are hiring a professional painter, choose the paint finish based only on results, not ease of application. Professional painters are proficient at applying all types of paints and paint finishes. If they make an error, they are accountable and can be expected to fix the issue.

White + White + Green

While painting an entire house exterior isn’t cheap, there are good quality brands to choose from that won’t break the bank. A little less pricey than the Duration Exterior Latex, SuperPaint Exterior Acrylic Latex is still one of the best exterior paint choices. You just may need to start with primer and apply an extra coat or two to achieve the same paint quality. The only downside of this paint is that it is more on the expensive side. Pay a little more upfront for a beautiful paint job that lasts for several years.

Therefore, you’ll have to repaint more frequently than if you’d chosen a different colour scheme. Acrylic masonry paints are water resistant, but paints with silicone resin formulation tend to last longer and offer more weather resistance. Trim painted camel emphasizes this home's shape, making it appear wider and taller.

Painting an entire house is a highly worthwhile, yet daunting, project. Breaking this sprawling job into smaller, easily manageable components is the key to getting this project done efficiently. If you have a Spanish Mediterranean Revival home, revive the exterior with a shade of yellow that’s reminiscent of a sunrise. Paint any ornate details white to spotlight those special characteristics, as designer Maggie Cruz did for her Florida house. I painted the soffit last, because it was easier to mask the wall than mask the soffit to paint the wall. What would have taken me an hour with a paintbrush was done in five minutes.

Primer is only essential if using paint directly on exposed brickwork or fresh rendering. Give a charming exterior a modern update with various shades of gray paint mixed with natural materials. For House Beautiful’s fifth Whole Home, the exterior was painted using Mole's Breath and Purbeck Stone by Farrow & Ball.

Next, a professional tapes off or masks features of the home that don’t need to be painted, such as windows, light fixtures, and gutters. Most professionals use a paint sprayer to apply one or two layers of paint over the course of a few days. In general, reserve the higher gloss levels only for trim and doors—surfaces that get a lot of wear and may need to be frequently scrubbed.

Care should be taken to avoid leaning things up against an uncured surface, so you will want to take that into consideration when choosing which paint with which cure time is best for your needs. In short, they’re “volatile organic compounds” that emit toxic fumes. Benjamin Moore’s WaterBlock® Acrylic Masonry Waterproofer is made for serious waterproofing. This real-deal waterproofing paint seals exterior masonry surfaces to keep them clean and dry inside and out.

70 Exterior Paint Colors For a Better Looking Home

house paint exterior

A plain home can be made visually interesting with this small addition. Another reason this paint is at the top of our list of the best exterior paints is that it is self-priming. This means that you’ll only need to apply one coat in most cases, and at maximum, no more than two. Fewer coats of paint and no need to prime will save you time and help you save on the cost of additional paint for additional coats. The cost of painting your house's exterior largely depends on its size and your location.

Repairs With Your Exterior Painting Project

You’ll want a color that lasts, so be sure to choose a higher quality paint, as these typically contain better pigments with less fading over time. Aura Exterior Paint is available in other finishes besides flat, but flat is an excellent choice for sunny areas to reduce glare. And while flat has more microscopic surface area on which mold and mildew could try to grow, you don’t have to worry about that so much if your main concern is hot sun exposure. That’s not an accidental extra zero – this paint is available in over two-thousand color variations.

Exterior House Paint Ideas

These estimates offer a range of $3,500 to $14,000 to paint the exterior of a 2,000-square-foot home. A few factors affect the cost of this type of project, including your location. Stored paint should be thoroughly re-mixed at the store before painting. Boxing the paint (mixing several cans together) can also solve the problem of uneven sheens.

Exterior Painting Cost By Material

Some products that utilize new technology can be applied as low as 35 degrees, but we generally advise not doing exterior painting when in cold months. Every house painting project is unique, so there is no way to guess what your price will be until an estimator sees your home and understands the scope of work that needs to be completed. This is how CertaPro Painters® delivers an accurate and complete estimate for you. As with any home repair project, you can't anticipate everything that will crop up while you're repainting the exterior. Damage from the sun, wind, and rain can mean your home needs repairs that you weren't aware of. Exterior painting is a good opportunity to check on the condition of the windows, screens, and storm windows as well as the roof and gutters.

You can also rent a paint sprayer for $30–$50 per day, but detail work and wall edges will likely still require some brushes or rollers. Beautify your home’s exterior with stunning and relevant hues carefully selected. The best method for covering a wall is to blend horizontal and vertical strokes to avoid any ‘grain’ being visible in the paint. Experts often claim it’s easier to work from right to left if you’re right-handed, but work in whatever direction you feel most comfortable. Start with the least visible wall to refine your technique and avoid making early mistakes on more visible walls. While colour is a personal choice (and may be influenced by neighbouring properties or local planning laws), it’s best to use neutral shades for external painting.

More time is needed to complete the job for a home with multiple stories. The table below shows the average total cost to paint a home based on square footage. Whether you’re using a roller or a paint sprayer, don’t over-apply paint since it’s liable to drip onto you or the ground. Apply masonry paint thickly, hoping one coat will suffice, but two or three may be required. If the wall has already been treated or painted, you don’t need a primer when applying masonry paint to an external wall.

Buttercup Yellow + White

A properly applied exterior paint job should last between five and 10 years. The lifespan of the paint job on your home will depend on the type of paint, the surface it’s applied to, and the climate in your region. If you don’t fancy doing this job, check out our exterior painting cost guide, which breaks down typical DIY costs versus hiring pros. As with interior painting projects, some external surfaces need masking. For instance, you don’t want to get cream masonry paint on black downpipes.

Beige + White + Black + Cobalt Blue

The glossier paints are more durable so they will hold up well on these trim surfaces that take the brunt of the weather. Set the right curb appeal with exterior painting efforts that last. Taking the time to strip away loose or peeling paint, power-or-hand-wash surfaces, and thoroughly dry them before painting will set you up for maximum success.

Project Information

Flat paint has a non-reflective finish that will feel slightly chalky and rough when you run your hand across it. A semi-gloss enamel sheen is sleek and radiant with a hard, durable finish. It is formulated to withstand wear, and will also resist moisture, fading and stains.

Satin paints require a bit more care during application in order to avoid lap marks. As with interior painting, it is important to keep a wet edge during application. Satin paints must be thoroughly mixed before application to keep the resins and pigments in a uniform ratio throughout the can.

Flat paint, too, is simple to apply with a sprayer since overspray easily blends in with the surface. Paint sheen relates to both the appearance and the performance of the exterior paint. Most homeowners are familiar with the shine—or lack of shine—that paint exhibits. Between those two extremes are a few other degrees of sheen, including eggshell and satin. Due to it’s one coat coverage, dirt and rain resistance, fade protection, and amazing adhesion, Marquee is my top pick for exterior paints and the one I use when painting my clients homes.

Start your preparation by running a soft long-handled brush over every part of the wall, working from the top down. Consider siding in a new hue for a colorful makeover with staying power. Advances in technology have created siding options that are resistant to both chipping and fading, which can mean less upkeep for you and vibrant color for years to come. With an assistant, paint the house with the backrolling method.

These tools and materials are necessary to paint an external wall and repair cracks or holes. If your property’s outside walls are pristine, such as immediately after building an extension, you can bypass the first two steps in the guide below. Panel boards are positioned to face south and are tilted to intensify the effects of sun and weather. One year of CR’s severe testing is equivalent to about three years in real time. The results give a sense of how paints will look after nine years on a house. Still, there are considerable differences among the 20 tested paints in Consumer Reports’ exterior paint ratings.

However, we know an average price range can be helpful to hear. Home Advisor puts the cost to paint the exterior of a single-story, 2,000-square-foot home between $2,000 and $8,000, including labor. For a full-of-life exterior, opt for bold salmon walls combined with sage green accents. The reddish pink hue is sure to make your home the next showstopper on the block. A sage green door and shutters add depth and relief from the otherwise extra-rich colored house.

To direct traffic to the front door, white columns frame the front steps. This exterior's rough surface causes the salmon exterior paint to appear as varying dark and light shades, which creates a time-weathered look that suits the home's old-world architecture. Saturated jade green shutters punctuate the elegant facade with jewel-tone richness. The brown window trim and front door pair nicely with the salmon, since the outdoor paint colors share the same orange undertones. The average cost to paint the exterior of a 2,000-square-foot home is $5,200, but that number rises up to $12,000 for a three-story house.

Ariel loved the whimsical feel of the inn and the intimate comfort of her room. After hearing the sunsets are a must-see, that night she opened her Dutch door and watched the most beautiful sunset, as she breathed the fresh ocean air. She grew hungry, and decided to treat herself to a lovely dinner at one of the many restaurants within walking distance. After a wonderful meal, she returned to her room and cozied up to a roaring fire. Feeling motivated, she opened her laptop and began to type. Hours passed and Ariel grew tired as she listened to the logs crackle in the fire.

The fine printMust-know information for guests at this property

Although the hotel is very centrally located in Carmel-by-the-sea, there’s still plenty of convenient and free parking spots. Often when you choose a hotel that’s in the center of all the action, you end up having to sacrifice the ease of finding parking. The seaside village has changed a lot since then — the tents and cabins were replaced by luxury homes and Carmel started to attract Hollywood stars. Not only is Clint Eastwood a former mayor but he also owns Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant, where he often still makes appearances. Doris Day co-owned the Cypress Inn, Betty White built a beach house in town and Brad Pitt recently moved to the Carmel Highlands.

And if you’re a writer, Carmel is the perfect place to write. Hofsas House is a great location and ideal if you’re looking to stay in Carmel By-The-Sea and want to walk everywhere. It’s three blocks from Ocean Avenue (near the shops) and eight blocks from Carmel Beach. In total, there are 38 spacious rooms with beautiful ocean views.

OVERALL THOUGHTS ON HOFSAS HOUSE: IS THIS THE RIGHT HOTEL FOR YOU?

The atmosphere was fun and we enjoyed sitting at the bar while we waited for our food. We ordered a classic bacon cheeseburger, prime rib French dip, and bangers and mash with grilled onion and mustard gravy. We enjoyed all three meals while watching the sunset from our room. Hofsas House provides its guests with a complimentary continental breakfast consisting of fruit, delicious pastries from a local bakery, coffee, and juice. Guests can bring a tray with their breakfast to their rooms. Guests with mobility challenges can request breakfast delivery to their room.

As the sun went down the light would hit the crystal knobs dispersing little rainbows all over our room. Each hotel room has one-of-a-kind furniture and decor touches, making each visit a unique experience. Our two night stay at the Hofsas House Hotel made our visit not only comfortable and convenient, but also colorful and full of sweet moments. THE CARMEL BEACH

The hotel has been owned and operated by one family (three generations) for the past seventy years. The Owner and General Manager Carrie Theis arranged a thoughtful itinerary for us. She made excellent family-friendly recommendations for restaurants and places to visit around the Monterey Peninsula. Carmel is unique in many ways, maintaining its quaint atmosphere by resisting city features like parking meters, street lights and sidewalks beyond downtown. These days, many Angelenos are drawn to the town, a five-hour drive from L.A. They delight in its cottages, picturesque downtown, beautiful beach with soft sand and striking coastline.

To attract families with kids, especially young kids, Carmel might have to make some changes. The rooms are each decorated with different styles, and some have mini-kitchens for convenience. Guests are served complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby each morning, and the town is merely a few short blocks away.

It’s romantic and lovely and feels like you’re stepping into a different time. If you’re considering a stay at Hofsas House, you’ll also want to know why Carmel-By-The-Sea is an ideal destination. But overall, Hofsas House is one of the best places to stay in the village of Carmel, and the cozy, welcoming, and artistic atmosphere suited us perfectly.

If you enjoy hiking, there are several trails in the park at both Whaler’s Cove and the Cypress Grove South Shore. Artesian coffee house serving small plates with ingredients sourced locally. The food and coffee is almost too pretty to eat and drink! The weather was beautiful so we sat outside on the spacious patio.

Families can easily spend a week here and still not see everything the area has to offer. Hofsas House Hotel is family friendly lodging that is centrally located and accommodating. The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History was an ideal family-friendly destination.

Carmel is a bit quirky but in a very authentic in a charming way. There are no street lights in the village, parking meters or house numbers. Location was on the hill of Carmel, but still walking distance to the beach. Food was a simple continental breakfast, but coffee or tea was good.

Free Breakfast

The place had charm and loved the dutch doors to see the view and get fresh air. Everything - from the second we checked in until we left. Great hospitality, nice welcome, lovely room, nice view, comfortable bedding, and nice morning breakfast greeting. There is so much more to see and do in and around Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Monterey Bay area.

Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History

There were several families with small children and doggies sitting outside with us. My husband ordered the California Classic Burger and I enjoyed the Fish & Chips. Carmel-by-the-Sea is known for being a very dog-friendly vacation destination, and you can also bring your pup to stay at the Hofsas House with you. The decor piece that I especially loved in our hotel room was the antique vanity.

Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel: Review

The only downside to staying at Hofsas is that some walls are thin. So, if you’re looking for absolute peace and quiet, this might not be the right place to choose. Fred Hofsas, also an artist, created the mosaic coat of arms. The Latin words mean “Leisure with Dignity.” The art around the hotel gives it a unique and comforting feeling when you visit. You’ll discover beautiful paintings from artist Maxine Albro while wandering around the hotel.

Wine Tasting in Carmel

For the adults, there’s a dry sauna to help you warm up when you exit the pool. Carmel By-The-Sea is also one of the most dog-friendly towns in the country. If your animal friend isn’t welcome in most places, Carmel is the perfect town for you to visit because almost everywhere welcomes dogs – including restaurants and hotels. The town is located on the Monterey Peninsula, about 120 miles south of San Francisco.

The Lone Cypress is a solitary tree out on the cliff that has braved the elements for the past 250 years. The Pacific ocean is a gorgeous dark blue along the cliffs. Revisiting the 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach was on my to-do list. In order to accommodate my short attention-spanned teen, Ms. Theis mapped out a shorter route that included the coastal highlights. We exited at the Pacific Grove gate where our next destination was located. Our last stop before we hit the road was at the highly recommended 5th Avenue Deli for sandwiches to go.

Eats within Walking Distance of Hofsas House

There are many charming houses along the Scenic Road, we had fun taking a leisurely walk to observe all the unique architecture of the homes. There’s also a very clean and modern public restroom on the trail, probably the best one I’ve ever seen at a beach. Our hotel room was located on the top floor and we enjoyed panoramic ocean views from our hotel room. In the morning you experience the colorful sunrise and in the evening watch the sunset over the horizon.

What is there to do at Hofsas House Hotel?

What makes this drive family-friendly is the number of stops you make at points of interest. If a family member has a short attention span, make fewer stops and be sure to have all family members pick a stop that interests them. Walking to the beach from Hofsas House is possible for the fit who don’t mind walking back uphill.

This 38-room German-chalet-style boutique hotel is unique for multiple reasons. First, it actually has a few on-site facilities, including a well-kept (and attractive) heated pool and two saunas. While there aren't any dining options on-site, the hotel's location is perfect for parking the car and walking to the downtown Carmel area. While my family does not have mobility challenges, Hofsas House has accessible rooms for patrons with this need. There are no elevators and most rooms require climbing stairs.

My husband had a beautiful pork chop on a bed of mashed potatoes with Brussels sprouts on the side, and my son tried their stuffed chicken in a lemon caper glaze. The Beach House in Pacific Grove serves a terrific, California-inspired menu in one of the most scenic spots around. The windows look out through the trees and the ocean views are stunning.

There are four theaters and two libraries in Carmel – all within one square mile. They have their own ambulance and police station, and it’s all very walkable. You’ll find plenty of artists, art galleries, public displays of art, and scads of cute shops and restaurants. It’s now one of our absolute favorite places in the world!

Since I have two boys, I am always concerned with their behavior and whether they are disturbing other people with their loud voices. Mostly, of course, they are well-behaved and I don’t have to worry. Hofsas House made me a little uncomfortable because sound carries easily through the walls. I hope we didn’t disturb our next-door neighbors the night we stayed there, but since we could hear them very clearly through the walls, I fear they could also hear us. I would never want to ruin someone’s vacation because my kids were playing in our hotel room.

We travel often and after visiting so many cookie-cutter hotels, it’s always fun to enjoy a splash of color and whimsy. Now, if you’re looking more for a modern, luxurious hotel, this is not the place for you. But if you’re seeking out an artistic, cozy, and affordable place to stay in Carmel-By-The-Sea for your family vacation, Hofsas House should definitely be at the top of your list. It’s also a great choice if you’re looking for a pet-friendly hotel in Carmel. Autumn and I talked with Carrie about her family’s legacy and the delightful inn during our stay.

Ms. Theis is available to personally assist guests with planning their events. We were told there are only a few hotels in town that offer rooms with two beds, Hofsas House being one of them, which is something families count on. And chain stores are banned in Carmel, so you won’t find a Starbucks or Pizza Hut on any of the admittedly adorable streets. Carmel-by-the-Sea is trying to improve its Family-Friendly offerings, but I’m afraid it has further to go. The town is picture-perfect but is filled with art galleries, expensive jewelry stores, and fancy resort wear. These are not stores kids care anything about, so there’s nothing for them to look at – or let’s face it, touch – which is what kids do.

How To Decorate For Halloween- Follow Our Easy Ideas

decorating a house for halloween

What you’ll get is a very spooky Halloween cocktail that looks like the real thing but tastes far better. This photo showcases a creepy look of Chucky, where half his face is ripped off. We imagine that you could have tons of fun fooling around with your guests or your significant other by constantly changing Chucky’s position in the house. For example, the ghost’s head can be made out of an old fabric ball or just old and unused clothes wrapped in a ball. You can add wire or plastic tubes to create a stick body, just enough to hang the sheets. Or, if you want to go with the example shown in this photo, cut black felt in the shape of eyes and mouths so that you can easily sew or glue them to the sheets.

So many ways to celebrate Halloween in Los Angeles!

Remember when you were a kid and you would make DIY paper chain garland? Upgrade that look for Halloween and create a strand of paper ghosts perfect for decorating a dining table or laying across a mantle. Instead of decorating with large pumpkins, sprinkle the mini versions around your house, on the table or on the mantel, for a cute Halloween look that is classy and simple. Halloween decoration ideas, if made at home, should be fun, and something the kids can get involved with. Knowing how to carve a pumpkin to effect is one thing, but you can actually create way more of an impact with bold pumpkin painting ideas. Better still, these no-carve pumpkin designs need less effort and time to look fabulous.

Halloween Living Room Decorations

All you need is some white frosting, chocolate sprinkles or cocoa powder, black licorice laces, and black icing tubes. Use the black icing to create two eyes with uneven pupils as well as two dots above them. If necessary, use a toothpick, or a paper towel dipped in cocoa powder to make this step easier. Start by drawing out a simple witch silhouette or a witch’s hat on an old piece of plywood or corrugated board.

Create an Apothecary

We love this simple decor idea using black house cutouts to create a ghoulish neighborhood perfect for decorating a mantle or a coffee table. Drape your bushes and front door with webs and incorporate them into your home decor. Get plastic spider rings that easily attach to complete the look.

To start, ensure that the tablecloth completely covers your table. This Halloween decoration can also be done with a clear glass surface so you can see the symbols below. From chandeliers to candleholders, you can transform birdcages into so many exciting pieces for your home. But perhaps a unique project is to use a repurposed birdcage as part of your Halloween decorations.

In this Halloween-themed event, guests will have one-on-one encounters with performers and explore a haunted mausoleum and abandoned chapel. Complimentary drinks will be offered before the show, and comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended (we’re serious about the exploring part). The two first did their pop-up at Tales of the Cocktail and it was so popular they decided to bring it to nine cities this October. In Los Angeles, Black Lagoon will be popping up at Lost Property Bar in Hollywood, which will be decked out in spookiness. From the decor to the costumed live performers, there is plenty of Instagram fodder at this fun spot. It’s more about the experience than the food here, but rest assured the food and cocktail presentations are on theme.

Sinister books serve as stands for glittering skulls and ominous crows. Cheerful Jack-o-lanterns stand atop candle holders, while a garland of bats weaves its way through cobwebs and crawling spiders. I love a seasonal doormat, and I always dress up our porch with my crow one. Here’s a link to buy it online but it’s significantly cheaper if you can visit the store. My family and I are big fans of popcorn nights, especially with a spooky movie! If you love caramel too, check out my recipe that is too good to be true.

Depending on the Halloween theme you choose for the outside of your house, you can select relevant decoration ideas for the indoors. Here is the list of props that will leave your home frightening and scream-worthy. Use skeletons, ghouls, tombstones, artificial rats, and monsters to design your house as a set for a gory scene. Place old dolls and furniture outside to create a scary stage, and add a smoke machine or frightening sound effects to make the house decorations even spookier. For this Halloween theme, you can also hang scary-looking figures around the house. Halloween is one of those holidays that is easy to decorate for using figurines.

Add a lighting effect replacing the normal globe with a black porch light. To create an abandoned house, you just need to create the illusion that the house is empty. If you already have pictures hung in your home, switch them with the Halloween ones to create a more normal feel. When you open the door, you are going to get hit by a white mist.

You can still have a spooky house without having a scary house. Modern Parents Messy Kids made these spider sacks that can really fill a void. Honey & Fitztransformed their front door into a trick-or-treater friendly piece of decor. Let’s dive into some more Halloween decorations you can take a look at to draw inspiration this year. For example, if you’re not into the traditional Bloody Mary, then you can create a spooky version of it. You will need to use cranberry juice in place of tomato juice, add some grenadine syrup, and add a dash of lime juice.

You can also use hot glue or superglue as long as it quickly dries so that you won’t have problems moving the ghost around. In the following steps, cut two triangles out of gray foam sheeting, where one is smaller than the other. Place them between your eyes and glue them together so you won’t see the sides when worn.

Homeowners in Burbank have taken it upon themselves to bring Disney right to their neighborhood with their ‘fantasmic’-themed Halloween decorations. Expect to see tons of spirited yard displays, inflated monsters, illuminated jack-o-lanterns, and ghostly projections in this decked-out slice of suburbia. Those looking to be surrounded by all things Halloween migrate to this festive street for a reason.

Be sure to let the paint dry before moving on to other steps to avoid any bumps. Once dry, cut thin strips of paper towel to use as mummy wrap. Try doing this in a zig-zag pattern so that it doesn’t look too bulky. Light the candles and brush the lighter around them so that the wax starts dripping. Make sure that wax pools spill over the edge by making deep dents on the area near the surfaces. Scatter dripping candles all over the house to create a mysterious atmosphere.

When decorating your porch this Halloween, don't just use pumpkins, Instead, mix in some greenery and mums to give your entryway a traditional, but classic autumnal look. Paint a few pumpkins with whimsical hues (try color-blocking) this year for a spin on the traditional Halloween decor. Decorate your front door with eerie black wreaths to welcome trick-or-treaters without being overly scary.

Stash the paper towel rolls around the outside of your haunted house, and when the sun sets, trick or treaters will get the feeling someone or something is watching them. Decorate your bedside table with an antique-looking lantern that casts a warm, twinkling light. This upcycled creation adds a literary twist to your decor and fits perfectly in your nocturnal reading nook. A new chapter unfolds on your porch, where body bags lounge in chairs, witches stir their mystical brews, and ghosts seem to dance on the wind.

Instead of mixing carved pumpkins, aliens, and zombies, choose one key idea with lots of small details that your neighbors can look at for hours. There are many scare-inducing options for a Halloween outdoor display, but sticking with one immersive theme and tone is better. Give the pumpkins and ghosts a break and bring out something that scares just about everyone, creepy dolls. Whether you use old dolls you already own or a few that you’ve thrifted, give the dolls a Halloween makeover by adding dirt or paint to their faces, hair and clothes. In addition to candles, there are all kinds of Halloween haunted house ideas using lighting. And in my opinion, this is one of the most important parts of making your home look spooky.

Tuerk House to open East Baltimore treatment center for pregnant people, teens

tuerk house

Tuerk House transforms lives by providing help and hope for enduring recovery to individuals, families and communities in the Baltimore metropolitan area who are struggling with addiction to alcohol and/or drugs. Today, our non-profit drug and alcohol treatment system serves nearly 300 patients a day, regardless of their ability to pay, through an innovative, integrated model of care that encompasses all aspects of recovery. Stuart House, a program of the Rape Treatment Center, is internationally recognized as a model for the treatment of sexually abused children. It was established in 1988 to remedy serious problems in the traditional child protection system and to enhance the treatment of child victims.

These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction. Situated in Baltimore, Maryland, Tuerk House is a drug and alcohol rehab for adults with substance use disorders. They also provide valuable community resources, including referrals, crisis services, and DUI programs. When finished, the facility is planned to include 20 inpatient beds for pregnant people receiving medical treatment for withdrawal from drugs and alcohol. Tuerk House's new 44,000-square-foot building in east Baltimore will be renovated from the inside out so the group can focus on both teens and pregnant women.

Services provided include 24/7 clinically managed care and support; individual and group counseling sessions; and ongoing case management for housing, employment, transportation and other needs. Tuerk House also operates a neighboring crisis stabilization center on behalf of the Baltimore Department of Health that provides acute care for intoxication or overdoses. It’s designed to keep people out of the emergency room or jail, and officials direct those who use the center to the longer-term services next door. Tuerk House offers 2 levels of residential treatment, giving our patients a stepping-stone approach to success in their commitment to life-long recovery.

The aversion to football shared by Greg and his wife Val has an earlier origin, the years in which their oldest son was beset by mental health troubles. Also in the works for Tuerk House is a new recovery home for pregnant people in Howard County. People likely will stay there between six months to a year, compared to the two weeks most will stay at the East Baltimore facility when it opens. The project's final phase will include renovating the building's exterior and the stairwells, which are expected to be complete by July. The new center is named for Sister Augusta Reilly, a longtime advocate for women in Baltimore and friend of Tuerk House. Reilly, who joined the Sisters of Mercy in 1957, served as the executive director of Marian House from 1987 to 2003 where she supported women seeking refuge from addiction, abuse, trauma, homelessness, unemployment and other challenging circumstances.

In Maryland, substance abuse treatment programs support individuals struggling with drugs or alcohol, and those who also have mental health conditions. These rehab programs vary, depending on the level of care you need. Clients who are exiting detox or intensive inpatient treatment often enroll in outpatient rehab programs to ensure a robust continuity of care. Outpatient programs allow clients to remain in or return to their homes and workplaces while continuing to receive treatment, which typically includes addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, at an outpatient facility.

The designs below prove that there can be a fairytale ending for any Tudor style house. According to Pennoyer, innovative masonry veneer techniques developed in the early 1900s made brick and stone homes more affordable to build. However, the intricacies of Tudors still were quite expensive for the average home builder. This led to the style fizzling out after World War II, when the country turned its attention to focus on new, affordable housing developments that could be built quickly.

Tudor style houses were typically designed with interiors that complemented the exterior in terms of design style. The asymmetry of the front facade of the house also enhanced the interior layout, Peter notes. It "offered great flexibility to the architect in terms of interior planning," he says. "The plan was not dictated by strict symmetry on the facades, allowing diversity in room heights, window placement, angled wings, etc." Interiors are often heavily accented in dark wood as well.
